Vis Lang: Final Poster

front

back

This is my final Ethos poster design. I used the theme work as proof. These meant i was using work from 9 new design firms opening up as evidence of the legitimacy and credibility. I also added to the ethos mode of the appeal by incorporating the designers hands into the poster. This added element of hands uses the credibility of the designer to make the argument that these design studios are valid and worth visiting. I spent alot of time in the creation of the actual book. I felt that this element, since it is the main element in the poster, was important to be visually appealing and well crafted. I chose to find pieces that had bright colors and would contrast nicely off of the stark white background. I also used very simple text for a modern and clean design. After the creation of the booklet and the different photo shots i realized it was alittle strange to make this poster so honking big. The hands would then be bigger than life size. Also with the image so big it really competed with the viewers eyes to look at all the different pieces apposed to just realizing it is supposing the fact that these 9 studios are opening the work is just a side element. Also after speaking with Jamie i realized it was really important to keep a strong sense of symmetry and balance. So i placed a hand on either side of the booklet and had the center crease of the book is in the center of the image and the text is placed in the center of the image as well. All of the images are locked up and placed within boxes and containers. I feel that the use of bold numbers was vital because i had very limited information to include in this poster so i used the numbers as a strong design element to pull the viewers eyes through the piece and also causes the viewer to wonder what the numbers stand for and causes a relationship between the viewer and the creator. I made the decision to make this piece more of an invitation that you would send out or place out on tables for people to pick up and want to take home to go and visit. These could also be mailed out to potential clients. Simplicity is the key and I got this from the original image that had little clarity and an ambiguous and arbitrary theme of the event. I think that using an ethos mode of appeal was the strongest argument when using the work as proof and using the credibility of the designers to make the viewer want to look at the piece.
