Vis Com: Olympics

1936, berlin- Had a Nazi feel
1948, london- light and badge like feel (royal emblem illustration style there was alot of inconsistencies with the relationship between people and their object or event.
1964, tokyo- abstract
1968, mexico- true systematic approach to branding- icons only apprentices/ no people lots of patterns full of cultural and cohesive elements.
1972-1976 munich and montreal, ALT Aicher made what we recognized as the ICONS for the olympics....45 degree angle with geometric and abstract circle  and pill shape..this has become the new standard
1984-LA. Little muscle structure but still same thin and thick line
1992 Barcelona only has arms and legs with a swoosher movement..not geometric
1996- atlanta-silhouetted muscle tone with greek influence with one unattached leg
2000 sydney- they added a cultural element of a boomerang to each figure ended up being alittle awkward and to similar...hard to dissever
2006 toronto..these became illustrations and where no longer pictograms
2008 beijing- these icons where stick figures
I guess that i never really realized how important the use of icons are in the worldly activities like the olympics. Icons really do have an important roll in the communication among many languges. The similar the better they need to have flair but be understood the same by all its views.
